BREAD BAKING CONTEST
The Bread Baking Contest is open to any and all participants and will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Library Meeting Room in Chinook on Saturday, October 10th. There is no fee to enter, all judges are local and your bread will be auctioned at the Chamber of Commerce BBQ on Saturday night. For more information, contact LuAnn Brabson at 357-2817.
Bread Baking Contest Rules:
Division I - White
Division II - 100% Whole Wheat
Division III - Bread Machine White
Judging Criteria:
All bread is to be baked in a standard size pan as listed below. Recipes must accompany all bread. Whole Wheat is to be 100% whole wheat. Bread machine bread must be made from scratch and not a mix. The bread must be a clear plastic bag with a twist tie or in a two-gallon Ziploc bag and must be baked by the exhibitor. All bread will be auctioned off at the Chamber Barbeque on Saturday. There is no fee to enter and entry is available to all ages. There will be awards given for Grand and Reserve in each division along with a Best-of-Show Ribbon awarded to the Overall best loaf. No money will be awarded for overall Best-of-Show.
Appearance - 25 POINTS
Pan size - approximately 8-1/2 x 4-1/2 x 2-1/2 min; 9”x5”x3” standard max.
Shape - uniform, free from cracks
Crust - uniform golden brown, even thickness
Crumb - 30 POINTS
Color - creamy white
Lightness - Crumb is elastic
Texture - Fine crumb, small holes evenly distributed
Moisture - moist and elastic
Flavor - 45
Good bread has a distinct odor and flavor of the grain, a sweet nutty flavor. The kind of fat used should not be noticeable.
Bread Prizes
$50 - 1st in White and Whole Wheat
$20 - 2nd in White and Whole Wheat
$40 - 1st in Bread Machine White
$15 - 2nd in Bread Machine White
All entries must be received between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10th, at the Library Meeting Room in Chinook. Recipes must accompany bread with no names on the card. Event is open to anyone. All Judges are from Blaine County.
