SUGARBEET GROWING CONTEST
Be sure to enter your biggest and best Sugarbeet in this contest! The Sugarbeets will be held on a trailer in front of Wells Fargo Bank and entries will begin at 9:00 a.m. - Judging will be at 11:00 a.m. Entry deadline is 10:30 a.m. There are two divisions, Youth (up to 14 years old) and Adult (14 years and older).
The Largest Beet will be determined by the water displacement method. The Beet will be submersed in a bucket of water with measured graduations and beet size will be determined by the amount of water displaced by the beet. In the event of a tie, the largest circumference will be used to break the tie - measured with a cloth sewing tape. Beets will be measured with the top removed with no leaf or stem material remaining and the root trimmed to no smaller than 1/8 inch in diameter. Awards will be given to the Largest Beet. Beets that are grown together can constitute an entry - contact Kay Blatter for rules.
The Heaviest Beet will be determined by weighing each beet on a scale approved by the County Extension Agent. Awards will be given to the heaviest beet. Beets that are grown together can constitute an entry - contact Kay Blatter for rules.
The Most Unique Shaped Beet - Beets will be placed on display on Main Street during the Festival and voting by the public will determine the winner of this award. Best Dressed Sugarbeet - Dress-up your Sugarbeet; and Smallest Beet could win an award also!
